The Quran says, “The month of Ramadan is the month in which the Quran was revealed, a guidance for mankind, and clear proofs of guidance and criterion (between right and wrong). So whoever sees the crescent (of the month of Ramadan), let him fast that month, and whoever is ill or on a journey, then an equal number of days (later). Allah intends for you ease, and He does not want to make things difficult for you. (He wants that you) should complete the prescribed period and glorify Him for that He has guided you, and that you may be grateful.” (Surah 2:185)

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “When the month of Ramadan comes, the gates of Paradise are opened and the gates of Hell are closed, and the devils are chained.” (Sahih Bukhari)
